Life & Work

Cathedral Prayer

Gracious God, you have set Christ Church Cathedral in the heart of Montreal to bear witness to the redeeming grace of Jesus Christ. Bless us in our service of worship, our ministry of music, and in our community service. May the presence of this Cathedral in our city draw people to worship you in the beauty of holiness. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Cathedral offers programs of Pastoral Care and Christian Education, beginning with Baptism preparation and Sunday School. For adult members there are many opportunities for study and reflection of the faith, arranged both within the Cathedral, and in conjunction with the resources of the Diocese, the Theological College and the universities of Montreal. Contact a member of the Cathedral Staff for more information.

Mission and Outreach

The Cathedral is engaged in many outreach activities, both to the business community, and to the disadvantaged of Montreal and the world.

On the last Sunday of each month, members of the Cathedral community serve a meal for up to two hundred people who might otherwise be hungry that day.

Emerge, a new Christian congregation focussing on 18-35 year olds, meets in the Cathedral's Undercroft on Sundays at 6.00 PM.

As part of the mission of the world-wide Church, Christ Church Cathedral maintains links of prayer and fellowship with four Anglican dioceses:

Altar

The Diocese of Caledonia - In our Sunday and weekday liturgy we pray regularly for the parishes of the Diocese of Caledonia in the far west of Canada, as they pray for us. We have also been enriched by exchanges of visits between our parish and the aboriginal Haida community of Old Massett.

The Diocese of Athabaska - We share in a Diocesan Partnership between the Diocese of Montreal and the Diocese of Athabaska.

Haiti - Members of our congregation have taken part in a medical assistance visit to Haiti. We have assisted financially in the building of a school in the parish of Léogane. Père Louis Toussant Rosanas and his wife visited us at the end of April 2001 for a week.

The Diocese of the Seychelles - We share in a Diocesan Partnership between the Diocese of Montreal and the Diocese of the Seychelles.

The Cathedral's Social Justice Group is interested in the Jubilee 2000 initiative, the movement for debt cancellation for impoverished countries. Our Lay Reader, Suzanne Cross, told us something of the Old Testament idea of Jubilee and about the theme of Year 3 of the The Canadian Ecumenical Jubilee Initiative: The Renewal of the Land.

In addition, the Dean, on behalf of the Diocese, maintains contact with the Cree and Inuit people of northern Quebec in the Dioceses of Moosonee and The Arctic.
