contemplating the Scriptures

Exodus 33:12-23

While God speaks to Moses as though he were a friend, the golden calf incident has driven a wedge between the Israelites and God. They feel separated from him.

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Paul opens his letter to the church at Thessalonica in the style usually used in correspondence in his time, but with a Christian message and wish.

Matthew 22:15-22

Representatives of the religious authorities have asked Jesus by what authority he has performed the many deeds in his ministry. Matthew has just told us the Parable of the Wedding Feast. The Pharisees have seen it as an attack on them.
