contemplating the Scriptures

Joshua 24:1-3a,14-25

The people of Israel are now residents of Canaan. According to this book, the conquest of the Promised Land is complete. Shechem has been a place of religious importance to the Israelites for centuries.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

In the preceding verses, Paul has turned to writing about the end of time. He has warned that “the Lord is an avenger” – so it is important to live a godly, ethical life.

Matthew 25:1-13

Jesus has told a parable about a master who leaves his estate, then suddenly and unexpectedly returns. Now he tells another parable about the unexpected coming of the Kingdom of God.
