We are the Anglican Parish of Saint George's, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, in the Town of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada, situated in the lovely West Island part of Montreal Island. We are a member of the Deanery of Saint Anne's, the Archdeaconry of Saint Lawrence, the Diocese of Montreal, the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada, and the Anglican Church of Canada. Our official parish name signifies that we are an Anglican parish within a civil parish. The Civil Parish of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue comprises the Town of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, the Town of Baie d'Urfé, and the Village of Senneville. In 197x, the ecclesiastical area known as the Pincourt Mission, which is situated on neighbouring Ile-Perrot, was integrated into the parish. This includes the municipalities of Ville-Ile-Perrot, Notre-Dame-d'Ile-Perrot, Terrasse-Vaudreuil, and Pincourt. Thus our parish serves several municipalities, and a wide area. In addition, we welcome members from other municipalities.

We have been in our present building since 1957. The first church was a small wooden structure built in the 1890s for the worship of summer residents. In 1955, the predecessor of the present building burned to the ground. This event gave rise in part to our parish emblem, the Flame and the Cross (see left), which is incorporated in the stained glass window in the sanctuary. The present building is red brick. Two of its features are a large tapestry, which hangs behind the altar, and a series of stained glass windows, executed by xxxxx, which in part illustrates the baptismal creed, and through which the motifs of fire and water are woven. The foundations of the old church can be seen a little to the east of the present building, and they are now incorporated into a lovely garden which is carefully maintained by members of the parish.
Our parish roll currently stands at about 220 members, in which there are 168 families. Most of our members live in the area, though we welcome students from nearby John Abbott College CEGEP, and from the Macdonald Campus of McGill University. As is typical of a suburban parish, some of our members have been with us only a short time; but our oldest parishioners have been members for many years. Liturgically we are open and diverse. There is room among us on the one hand for the Book of Common Prayer, and on the other for the Book of Alternative Services. We try to use all our liturgies in an informed and creative way, and we enjoy experimenting and innovation. The key is an open participation by the whole congregation, and an intentional desire to use liturgy as the Work of God, and of the Whole People of God. So do not be surprised on occasion to see Liturgical Dance, or other things, especially in which children can join; and we try to use the whole Book of Alternative Services, recognizing its call for intentional and creative corporate worship.
The parish is dominated by no one spirituality. Instead, we take seriously our vocation as a parish church, having a duty to minister to all within its sphere, no matter what their special devotion is; and we welcome anyone who similarly enjoys open and non-partisan styles of worship. Similarly, we embrace the idea of Baptismal Ministry, the Ministry of the Whole People of God, by which ministry is defined as something more than just for the clergy. This is reflected in our teaching, and is acted out in our worship, in which a number of people participate. This openness includes our music. We enjoy a variety of musical styles from the traditional to the modern. We are especially welcoming to young families and children, and to the special ambiance which children bring to Christian worship. In accordance with Diocesan canons, we welcome to our altar all who are baptized, and who are communicants in their own churches, no matter the denomination. This includes children who have been baptized and are not yet confirmed. We find that allowing the Holy Communion to be a matter of family sharing strengthens our families, their members, and the whole church. We have active Christian education programs for children and for adults, helping us all to grow in the grace of Sacrament and Word.
