An Episcopal Decree Concerning the Parish of St Andrew

ANDREW
by divine permission
LORD BISHOP OF MONTREAL
to the faithful of
Christ Church, St Andrew's East, St Paul's Church, Dunany,
and St Simeon's Church, Lachute
and to all others whom these presents shall concern:
GREETING

WHEREAS by Letters Patent issued at Quebec on May 10th, 1822 by Governor Lord Dalhousie in the name of King George IV the pastoral oversight of Anglicans in the Seigneury of Argenteuil was established under the title of the Parish of St Andrew, with The Rev'd Joseph Abbott as the first incumbent of the church now known as Christ Church, built 1819-1821;

AND WHEREAS Christ Church, St Andrew's East, subsequently became the mother church of Anglican ministry at Lakefield, Grenville, Hawkesbury, Hudson and, in 1878, at Lachute with the appointment of the Rev'd H.J. Evans in 1878 to establish St Simeon's Church;

AND WHEREAS pastoral expediency has dictated that since 1942 the faithful of Christ Church in St Andrews East, and since 1984 the faithful of St Paul's Church in Dunany, be ministered to by the incumbent of St Simeon's, Lachute in a pastoral charge known as the Parish of Lachute;

AND WHEREAS the faithful of St Andrews East are unable any longer to maintain their building and the cost of ministry, and have concluded that Christ Church must be deconsecrated and made available for other purposes:

Seal of The Rt Revd Andrew S. Hutchison, Lord Bishop of Montreal

WE THEREFORE BY THESE PRESENTS undertake to the best of our ability to ensure: that the building of Christ Church, St Andrews East, continue to be used for the public good and in a way consistent with its sacred origins; that the graves surrounding Christ Church be decently and reverently maintained; and that all endowments and gifts which have been or shall in the future be given or willed to Christ Church, St Andrews East, serve for the maintaining of Anglican ministry in the area;

AND, to honour the history of Christ Church, St Andrews East; to maintain the links of the present Anglican parish with its origins; and pursuant to the wishes of the Corporations and Select Vestry of the churches involved as expressed by resolution on March 16, 1999, WE DO FURTHER DECREE that the pastoral charge currently known as the Parish of Lachute revert to its original name and be known henceforth as THE PARISH OF ST ANDREW.

Given at our See City of Montreal on this Wednesday of Holy Week, the thirty-first day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety-nine and in the Ninth year of our Consecration.
